Mr Agirbas, originally from Turkey, and now a long-time British national started his 50 years career in hospitality with a Purley based Wimpy franchise. That experience coupled with a driving entrepreneurial vision led him to develop Kebab King, Britain's first taste of takeaway kebabs.
During the 1980's the business quickly grew into chain of 60+ outlets centred in Croydon and SE London. The Kebab King brand was also successfully licensed to operate overseas with branches in Bodrum, Turkiye and Beijing, Shanghai & Shenzen City, China. Indeed the kebab take away concept soon spread nationwide as others noted and copied the growth and development of Kebab King.
The success of Kebab King brought new opportunities allowing Mr Agirbas to act as a consultant to many catering start-ups and a mentor to new investors. There are many take always and restaurants trading today that can trace connections to, and professional guidance from him.
The next major development was the launch of Doneagles Fish & Chips in South Norwood. Devised to set a higher agenda for style and presentation beyond what Mr Agirbas saw in many existing fish and chip outlets. 25 years later, still successfully trading today, under the brand DoneaglesZA, the venue will be familiar to those attending Selhurst Park football matches.
Forever looking for new challenges, Mithras Turkish & Mediterranean Restaurant, is the latest new catering format to be devised and developed by Mr Agirbas. Previously trading as a declining Mexican restaurant, the boundless energy and innovative thinking of Mr Agirbas saw the opportunity, and within a year, took on the challenge, invested and created what is now a thriving dining venue.
